Remark on martyrs: Court summons Goyeshwar
A Dhaka court today summoned BNP standing committee member Goyeshwar Chandra Roy to appear before it by March 16 in connection with a defamation case filed for derogatory remarks on the Liberation War martyrs.
Metropolitan Magistrate Md Nuru Miah passed the order after Abul Kalam Azad, officer-in-charge (Investigation) of Shabagh Police Station, submitted a probe report saying the comments on the Liberation War Martyrs were found to be true.
The IO also appealed to the court to take a legal action against Goyeshwar Chandra Roy upon receiving the report.
On January 21, a Dhaka court ordered a probe into defamation allegations against BNP senior leader Goyeshwar for his derogatory comments on the Liberation War martyrs.
Metropolitan Magistrate Md Aminul Haque directed Shahbagh police to submit the investigation report to the court on February 18.
Earlier in the day, Monindra Kumar Nath, the son of martyr Dinesh Chandra Nath, filed the case. Dinesh was killed by local collaborators at Noakhali's Maizdi in mid-September of 1971.
This is the second lawsuit Goyeshwar is facing for the December 25 remarks that the 1971 martyred intellectuals were "anti-liberation elements" who "died like fools" and drew salaries and allowances from Pakistan till the end of the war.
The first suit was filed with the same court on January 5.
Different newspapers published his comments, which are disparaging to the freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives for liberating the country, said the complainant.
