4 killed in road accidents in 3 dists
At least four people were killed and eighteen others were injured in separate road accidents in Comilla, Madaripur and Habiganj districts today.
In Comilla, one person was killed and eight others injured after a bus crashed into the motorcade of former minister and BNP leader Dr Khandker Mosharraf Hossain.
The deceased was identified as, Jewel Prodhan, reports our Comilla correspondent quoting Abul Kalam Azad, officer-in-charge (OC) of Daudkandi Highway Police Station.
Around 12:30pm, a Shyamoli Paribahan bus crashed into the motorcade at a turn in Amirabadh area of Comilla, the police official added.
Jewel was an activist of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), the correspondent said quoting people present at the accident.
In Madaripur, a man was killed and 10 others were injured in a road accident on Dhaka-Barishal highway in Pantapara area under Kalkini upazila around 4:30am.
The deceased: Rabiul Islam, 35, a bus driver, reports our Madaripur correspondent quoting Afjal Hossain, sub-inspector of Bhanga Highway Police Station who quoted locals as saying.
In Habiganj, two motorcyclists were killed as their motorbike plunged into a roadside ditch on Dhaka-Sylhet highway at Rokanpur in Nabiganj upazila, reports UNB.
The deceased were identified as Nurul Islam, 26, son of Ahsan Ullah and Sabuj Ahmed, 20, son of Abdur Rahim of Jaintapur upazila.
Nirmal Chandra Bhoumik, officer-in-charge of Sherpur Highway Police, said the accident took place around 6:00am when the motorbike fell into the roadside ditch, leaving two riders dead on the spot.
On information, police recovered the bodies and sent those to local hospital morgue.
