‘Robber’ killed in ‘gunfight’ with Comilla cops
An alleged robber was killed and another injured in a 'gunfight' between their cohorts and detectives in Comilla Sadar upazila early today.
The deceased was identified as Zira Sumon, accused in 21 cases filed with Kotowali Model Police Station.
Mahbubur Rahman, inspector of Detective Branch of police in Comilla, said a team of detectives was returning to their office after conducting a drive in Brahmanpara upazila of the district around 3:00am.
A gang of robbers numbering eight to ten obstructed their vehicle when it reached in Palpara Bridge area.
As the bandits saw police personnel inside the vehicle, they opened fire, forcing the law enforcers to retaliate, which triggered a ‘gunfight’, the inspector said.
Khokan was caught in the line of fire and died on the spot, while one of his associates received bullet injuries.
Four police personnel were also injured during the gunfight. They were given first aid.
The law enforcers arrested three other robbers from the spot and recovered one revolver, three LGs, and several local firearms from the spot.
The injured robber was admitted to Comilla Medical College Hospital.
