‘Robber’ killed in Laxmipur ‘gunfight’
A suspected robber was shot dead in a “gunfight” between two groups of robbers in Berirmatha area in Char Shahi union of Laxmipur early today, police said.
The deceased were identified as Jabed Mintu, member of inter-district robbery gang and son of Hossian Ahmed, a resident of Itkhola village of the union.
Mokter Hossain, officer-in-charge of Chandraganj Police Station, said two gangs of robbers got into a dispute over sharing of the money which triggered a gunfight, leaving Mintu bullet-hit.
On information about firing from locals, police rushed to the spot and rescued the injured robber. He was sent to Sadar Hospital where doctors declared him dead, the police official said.
Police recovered one light gun, eight rounds of bullets and 10 shells of bullets from the spot.
Mintu was accused in 18 different criminal cases, including four for robbery, the OC said.
