SCBA urges govt to give shelter to Rohingyas
The Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) today requested the government to give shelter to the Rohingyas fleeing violence in Myanmar’s Rakhine state.
The repression and cruelty by Myanmar’s army, police and border force on minority Rohingyas of Rakhine state has crossed all the records of the world history, SCBA President Advocate Zainul Abedin told reporters at a press conference organised by the association at its auditorium.
He said their [law enforcers of Myanmar] behavior with the Rohingyas is a clear violation of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, 1948 and International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights of the United Nations.
Advocate Zainul Abedin said the humanity is being seriously violated in Myanmar and the brutality is taking place at the direction and instigation of Nobel Peace Prize winner Aung San Suu Kyi-led government in that country.
“We are urging the United Nations and the world leaders to take steps about whether the Nobel Prize can be taken back from Suu Kyi if she does not stop repression and torture on Rohingyas,” he said.
He also urged the government of Bangladesh to enhance the diplomatic efforts to resolve the Rohingya related crisis and to help Rohingyas until killing, looting and rape on them are not stopped.
SCBA President Zainul Abedin said the SCBA leaders will visit Myanmar to stand by the Rohingyas if it is necessary.
SCBA Secretary Barrister AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon also spoke to the press conference.
