RU expels 3 BCL leaders
Rajshahi University authorities have expelled three leaders of Bangladesh Chhatra League of the university unit for beating three officials including the chief engineer last year.
The decision came at the university's syndicate meeting with RU vice chancellor Prof Muhammad Mizanunddin as the chair last night following the recommendation of a disciplinary committee, reports our RU correspondent quoting RU acting register Professor Entajul Hauqe.
The expelled BCL leaders are: Former RU unit general secretary S M Touhid-Al-Hossain Tuhin, also a student of Finance and Banking department, its vice president Tanmoy Ananda Ovi and Shaheed Habibur Raman hall unit president Mamunur Rashid Mamun. Ovi and Mamun are the students of Fisheries department.
Earlier on August 28, 2014, a group of about 12 BCL leaders and activists led by the three severely beat up Sirajum Munir, acting chief engineer of RU and two other employees for refusing to give them extortion money.
A day after the incident, BCL central committee suspended Tuhin from the organisation. On August 30, the university authorities also suspended the others as temporarily action.
