M’singh medical students boycott classes, exams
Students of Mymensingh Medical College today boycotted all classes and examinations following “inaction of the college authorities over the allegation of stalking by an outsider”.
The alleged stalker, most probably a rickshaw-puller, made indecent gestures towards a second-year student of the medical college when she was returning to her hostel in the afternoon, Sub-inspector (SI) Shofiqul Islam, police camp in-charge of Mymenshingh Medical College, told our local correspondent.
She immediately informed the matter to the hostel super Dr Nahida Akhter and Principal Professor Dr Anwer Hossain.
Instead of taking any action, the college authorities tried to hush-up the incident which enraged the students, the SI said quoting the students.
Meanwhile, some students today assaulted the gate keeper of the hostel Raja Mia for not being on duty when the incident happened, the police official said.
All the fourth-grade employees of the college are on work abstention since the assault, he added.
The medical college authorities were holding a meeting with both the students and the fourth-grade employees till this afternoon when the report was filed.
Md Al-Amin, additional police superintendent (Sadar Circle) of Mymensingh, also visited the campus.
