‘Shibir man’ killed in ‘gunfight’ with Sirajganj cops
An activist of Islami Chhatra Shibir was killed in a “gunfight” with police in Sirajganj Sadar upazila while the bullet-hit body of a Shibir leader found in Rajshahi city today.
The Shibir man who was killed in the gunfight was identified asAnisul Rahman, 24, said Habibul Islam, officer-in-charge of Sirajganj Sadar Police Station.
The OC said police caught Anisul red handed when he and his cohorts were fleeing the scene after attacking the police station around 7:00pm yesterday. They exploded several crude bombs targeting the station during the attack, reports our Pabna correspondent.
During primary interrogation, Anisul introduced himself an activist of Shibir, the student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami.
Later, police conducted a drive at their den in Dhanbandi area along with Anisul and arrested five of his associates along with three handmade bombs.
The Shibir men opened fire when the team was conducting a second drive at Hard Point around 12:30am, forcing the law enforcers to retaliate that triggered the 15-minute gunfight.
After all the Shibir men fled the scene, police found bullet-hit Anisul at the scene. the law enforcers rushed him to Sirajganj General Hospital where he succumbed around 6:00am, the OC said.
The team recovered 16 bullets from the area but none were arrested, he added.
RAJSHAHI
The bullet-hit body of Shohidul Islam, 24, a Sathi member of Shibir, was found in Rajshahi city.
Shohidul, a resident of Bharalipara area in the city, was younger brother of the organisation’s city unit president Jasim Uddin, said Mizanur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Shah Makhdum Police Station.
A source at Shibir told The Daily Star that Shohidul was arrested by police from one of his friend’s house on Saturday. But police denied the claim.
Informed by locals around 7:00am, police recovered the body from a field, 50 yards off Kharkhari bypass road, in Kistoganj area, reports our correspondent quoting the OC.
The body, which bore five bullet mark injuries, was sent to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy, he added.
He was a fugitive accused in more than seven cases filed for violence, said the OC.
