SP’s wife killing: 2 suspects remanded
A Chittagong court today placed two suspects, arrested in connection with the murder of SP Babul Akter's wife Mahmuda Khanam Mitu, on seven-day remand.
Metropolitan Magistrate Harun-Ar-Rashid placed them on remand after police produced the duo – Abu Naser Gunnu and Shazaman Robin – before the court.
Abu Naser was involved in politics of Islami Chhatra Shibir, the student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami, since 1995 but had left for a middle-eastern country.
Police produced them before the court with a 10-day remand prayer for each, Md Fakhruddin, public prosecutor, told our Chittagong correspondent.
Abu Naser, aged about 40, was detained on Wednesday from Farhadabad area of Hathazari in Chittagong while Shazaman Robin was arrested from the city’s Bayezid area yesterday morning.
Investigators of the killing case suspected that Robin was one of those who took part in the gruesome murder of Mitu, 32, wife of Superintendent of Police Babul Akter.
Police from CCTV footage found that the bike-riding assailants came from the GEC intersection, stabbed and shot Mitu and fled through Golpahar area of the port city on June 5.
