Susane Giti becomes first female major general
The Bangladesh Army yesterday got its first female major general, Dr Susane Giti.
She becomes the first woman to get the rank promotion in the history of Bangladesh Army as well as Armed Forces Division, said a press release of Inter Service Pubic Relation (ISPR).
Bangladesh Army chief General Aziz Ahmed and Quarter Master General Lt General Md Shamsul Haque adorned Dr Susane Giti with the rank badge of major general at the Army Headquarters yesterday. Senior military officials were also present at that time, said the ISPR release.
Susane Giti, MBBS, MCPS, FCPS, MMAD is currently serving as head of Pathology Department of Armed Forces Medical College.
Her husband, Brigadier General (retd) Asadullah Md Hossain Saad was a successful military expert physician, the release said.
Maj Gen Dr Susane Giti obtained the MBBS degree from Rajshahi Medical College in 1985.
She joined the Bangladesh Army as a physician with the rank of captain in 1986.
In 1996, she became the first woman to obtain FCPS degree in Hematology.
Dr Susane Giti also served as the expert pathologist for UN peacekeeping missions and several military hospitals.
