Swechchasebak League man stabbed dead in Thakurgaon

An upazila-level leader of Swechchasebak League was stabbed to death allegedly by a Jubo League leader in Thakurgaon municipality area early today.

Victim Abdul Mannan, 36, was treasurer of Sadar upazila unit of Sechhasebak League, a front body of the ruling Awami League, reports our Thakurgaon correspondent.

Mannan came under the attack when he along with his two friends was going to railway station around 12:00am, ATM Sifayatul Mazdar, inspector (investigation) of Sadar Police Station said quoting locals.

Sajib Datta, who is joint secretary of Sadar upazila unit of Jubo League, wielding with sharp weapons and iron rods swooped them, leaving Mannan and his friends seriously injured, the police official added.

Soon after they reached at Munsirhat area Sajib Datta, joint secretary of sadar upazila unit Jubo League, intercepted them with his another friend Shanta,36, and attacked on them with sharp weapons and iron rods.

Locals took them to Thakurgaon Sadar Hospital where the doctors declared Mannan dead.

Jony Ulubbi, 35, who was with Mannan during the incident, told our correspondent that Mannan engaged in an altercation with Sajib last week over a trivial matter.

Superintendent of Police Farhad Ahmed said that the killers have already been detected. Police is conducting drive to nab them soon.
