Vehicles in long queue at Paturia
Thousands of Eid holidaymakers have been suffering immensely due to a three-kilometre tailback at Paturia ferry terminal today.
Desperate to celebrate Eid-ul-Azha with their nearest and dearest ones, the home-bound people got stranded at the terminal due to heavy pressure of vehicle, reports our Manikganj correspondent.
More over the ferries are taking almost double time to cross the river due to heavy current, said Jillur Rahman, assistant general manager (commerce) of BIWTC.
Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) staff are struggling to manage the vehicles while a good number of ferries are also operating between Paturia and Daulatdia river routes, the assistant general manager said.
Nine Ro-Ro ferries, three K-type ferries and six utility ferries are now in operation on the route, he added.
Traffic inspector of Manikganj Traffic office Abul Hossain said the numbers of vehicle are increasing as the day progresses. It will take a serious turn if the heavy rush of vehicles continues, he feared.
