Gold bars worth Tk 10 crore seized from Biman plane
Officials of Chattogram Customs House and National Security Intelligence seized gold bars worth around Tk 10 crore from beneath the passenger seat of a Biman Bangladesh Airlines aircraft at Chattogram airport.
Flight BG128, coming from Abu Dhabi, landed at the Shah Amanat International Airport at around 10:25am, Rokhshana Khatun, deputy commissioner of Chattogram Customs House, who led the drive, told The Daily Star.
She said they have recovered 150 gold bars from under two passenger seats of the plane.
"From beneath seat no. 26A, we have seized 90 pieces of gold bars and from seat 18A, 60 gold bars," she said.
However, no one was detained in connection with the incident.
"We will file a case regarding recovery of the gold bars and the higher officials of Chattogram Customs House will determine whether a criminal case will be filed," Rokhshana added.
Another official of the Chattogram Customs House told media that they think a section with vested interest in Biman might be involved with gold smuggling.
