6 arrested over raping RMG worker in Ctg
Police on Friday night arrested six alleged rapists on charge of gang-raping a garment worker in two separate incidents in Sitakunda and Mirsarai upazilas of Chattogram.
The arrestees are Raihan alias Rana, Shahadat alias Mamun, Md Ashraful islam alias Al Amin, Belal, Sagor and Ismail.
Except Rana, the five others raped the 22-year-old girl in Sitakunda and Mirsarai embankment area, said Md Mujibur Rahman, Officer-in-charge (OC) of Mirsarai Police Station.
The OC said the victim, who filed a case with the police station in this connection, is now receiving treatment at a hospital.
According to the case statement, the 22-year-old RMG worker had boarded a minibus from Olongkar point of the port city on June 23 at around 6:00pm.
The helper, Mamun, took her to Sitakunda first and picked up driver Al Amin. While the bus was returning to the city, they picked Ismail and another transport worker and the four took turns raping the girl inside the vehicle.
Police sources said the following morning, Belal found the girl and took her on a CNG-run auto-rickshaw to Mirsarai embankment area around 9:00am in the name of helping her. Later, Belal with his associate Sagor and two others again raped her.
Another accused, Rana, later stole her mobile phone and cash from her bag and dropped the victim off in front of Nizampur College, said the OC.
Later, the victim rushed to the police station and filed a case accusing nine persons, the OC said.
OC Mujibur said the victim has already identified the criminals and that they were trying to arrest the other accused in the case.
