Dhaka court imposes travel ban on Bashundhara MD

A Dhaka court today issued a travel ban on Bashundhara Group Managing Director Sayem Sobhan Anvir, in connection with a case filed over abetting suicide of a young girl whose body was recovered from a rented flat in Dhaka's Gulshan area last night.

Metropolitan Magistrate Md Shahidul Islam passed the order after Abul Hassan, officer-in-charge of Gulshan Police Station and also the investigation officer of the case, submitted a petition seeking travel ban on Sayem.

Md Alamgir Hossain, a general recording officer of Gulshan Police Station at the CMM court, confirmed the development to The Daily Star.

In the petition, the IO said following the case, there is a chance that Sayem might leave the country to avoid arrest.

After the hearing, the magistrate directed the police authorities to send the order sheet to the Chief of the Special Branch (Immigration) to take further steps in this regard.

The court directed the IO to submit by May 30 a probe report of the case.

The victim's sister filed the case with Gulshan Police Station early today against Sayem Sobhan, said Sudip Chakrabarty, deputy commissioner of Gulshan division police.

In the case statement, charges of abetting suicide were brought against the businessman, he said.
