Women are too far aware of how sexual predators often lurk in the crowd, in guise of regular men, colleagues and family members.

And it so happens, that a 16-year-old girl in Rajshahi recently came across one such predator when she thought she was just helping out an elderly man. 

The incident happened in the morning of December 28 last year when she was on her way to coaching classes in the city's Kumarpara area near Baroda Kalimata temple.

This is when she heard someone call out for help and turned back to see an elderly man leaning against a wall. Clad in a lungi and wrapped in a shawl, he was fighting the winter chill.

"Can you help me? I can't walk," he said. In a bid to help the man, she took him by his hand, which is when the elderly man tried to molest her.

The girl managed to push the man aside and ran away.

A little later, she returned to the spot with her relatives to find the man had left the spot.

Yesterday, nearly a month after the incident, the girl noticed a video footage of the man being shared on different social media groups.

In the footage, the man was seen begging amidst the crowd at Rajshahi's RDA Market area. At the same time, he was also seen sexually harassing women who came near him.

Police started investigating the matter after coming across the viral video.

They arrested the man, identified as Enamul Haque Bulu (62), from his house in the city's Shekher Chalk area early today, said Nibaran Chandra Burman, OC of Boalia Police Station.

Hailing from Naogaon, Bulu, a father of two daughters and a son, lived in a rented house in the city and earned a living by begging. He would sexually harass women while begging for alms, the OC said.

Police investigated the matter, talked to his family members, eye witnesses and scrutinised available video footage, OC Nibaran also said.

"We found that he [Bulu] was intentionally engaged in sexually harassing women in the streets and a number of women were his victims," he added.

This morning, the schoolgirl learned from social media that the man was arrested by police.

Accompanied by her relatives, she went to Boalia Police Station and filed a case against him for sexually harassing her, the OC added.
