The drama "Apon Dulal," earlier obstructed in face of objections by locals in Kapasia upazila, is set to be staged tomorrow morning at 11:00am.

Kapasia Upazila Nirbahi Officer Tamanna Tasnim confirmed the development to The Daily Star tonight.

She said the performers were prepared to proceed with their plans.

Earlier, the play's staging was halted due to concerns raised by the committee of Raninagar Jame Mosque. The drama was meant to be presented on Thursday morning on a field in Raninagar village, under Durgapur union.

Local organisers disclosed that cultural performances, including plays, musicals, and folk dramas, have been held on the grounds for the last 52 years. The current production of the play "Apon Dulal," is supposed to be its 52nd edition. They further noted that preparations for the play, including rehearsals, had been going on for the last one month.

Khondaker Shahadat Hossain, one of the organisers, told The Daily Star, "There is no obscenity in this play. 'Apon Dulal' is a refined musical drama. Despite its artistic value, members of the mosque committee obstructed its performance."

Assistant Commissioner (Land) Md Nurul Amin today said initial reports suggested the drama faced opposition due to miscommunication among certain leaders of the organising committee.

Contrary to media claims, the mosque's imam and khatib reportedly said that they had not made comments about permanently banning dramas in the area, he added.
