NSU to host international conference: 'Ruptures and Resilience: English Studies in the Now'

The Department of English and Modern Languages (DEML) at North South University will be hosting an international conference titled, 'Ruptures and Resilience: English Studies in the Now' on November 4 and 5 at their university campus in Bashundhara Residential Area. 

The conference will host speakers and panellists from reputed institutes all around the globe, including the likes of Dr Dana Lynn Driscoll, who is a Professor of English at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, as well as Dr Anwar Ahmed, Professor at University of British Columbia. 

The conference will be attended by prominent figures in Bangladeshi academia and the literary scene, such as Dr Fakrul Alam, Supernumerary Professor of the University of Dhaka, Dr Kaiser Haq, poet, critic, translator, and Professor of English at University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB), and Dr. Syed Manzoorul Islam, writer, critic, and also a Professor of English at ULAB. 

Noted writers and academics, Drs Niaz Zaman, Razia Sultana Khan, Deena P. Forkan, and Shireen Huq will engage in a discussion on Bangladeshi women writing in English. 

Organisers of the conference told The Daily Star, "We expect this conference to be a grand event for showcasing theoretical ideas and cutting-edge research in the fields of literature, linguistics, and English teaching".

"We are happy to say that this is one of the largest post-pandemic on-site English conferences in Bangladesh which is bringing together around 100 research papers from five continents", they added.

Participants of the conference will unpack themes from various contemporary and other works of literature and language and present them to the audience in attendance.

It will also conduct a writing workshop, 'Workshop on the Writing Center', by Dr Driscoll, Professor of English, and Director Kathleen Jones White of the Writing Center, Indiana University of Pennsylvania, USA--on the second day of the conference, Saturday, from 9:30 to 10:40 am.
