Just one month into the killing by armed militants at a Gulshan café, wife of the slain Detective Branch Assistant Commissioner Robiul Karim gave birth to a baby girl early today.

While fighting to rescue his country from the grips of terror, Robiul, a DB officer of Dhaka Metropolitan Police and Salauddin, officer-in-charge (OC) of Banani Police Station were killed during the hostage crisis on July 1 at Holey Artisan Bakery in Dhaka's diplomatic zone of Gulshan.

Robiul’s wife Umme Salma gave birth to the baby girl around 12:15am today at Enam Medical College and Hospital in Savar, outskirt of Dhaka. She was brought to the hospital around 5:58pm on Sunday, family sources said.

A team of doctors led by Dr Kamrun Nesa led the scissoring. Mother and her new born baby girl are in good condition, Dr Kamrun Nesa told our Manikganj correspondent.

Umme Salma was kept at C block in the hospital’s sixth floor while her new born baby girl was kept Neonatal Intensive Care Unit according to advices from the doctors, said Shamsuzzaman Shams, youngest brother of Robiul.

Robiul joined Bangladesh Police through 30th BCS (Bangladesh Civil Service) after completing his master's in Bangla from Jahangirnagar University.

He bled excessively during the attack, according to his autopsy report. Splinters hit him in the right chest.

n July 1, Dhaka witnessed one of the worst terror attacks in its history as gunmen attacked Holey Artisan Bakery, an upscale eatery on Road 79 of Gulshan killing 22 people including two police officers -- Salauddin and Robiul -- after a 12-hour long hostage situation.

Nine Italians, seven Japanese, two Bangladeshis, one Bangladeshi-American and one Indian were among the dead.

Thirteen hostages were rescued while six of the gunmen, who attacked the upscale eatery were killed in a 50-minute army-led joint forces operation codenamed "Operation Thunderbolt".
