Poluck second Bangladeshi to be featured by HMV
Famous Bollywood recording company, Saregama Music (HMV) has released a reinterpreted version of "Mera Kuchh Samaan", featuring Bangladeshi recitation artist Samiul Islam Poluck and Priyangbada Banerjee.
The original song was released in 1987, for the movie "Ijaazat", which starred Naseeruddin Shah, Rekha, Anuradha Patel and Shashi Kapoor. The original song was composed by R D Burman, with Gulzar writing the lyrics. The melodious voice of Asha Bhosle would bring this song to life, winning the artiste a National Film Award for 'Best Singer', while Gulzar would also go on to win 'Best Lyricist'.
Even after all these years, this song still holds a special place in the hearts of people. It was with the intention of celebrating the song's 35th anniversary, that Saregama released a reinterpreted version of it.
Talking about the song, Samiul Islam Poluck said, "This song is a lyrical masterpiece that tugs at your heartstrings. It's a perfect love letter about a painful goodbye, penned by Gulzar saab. It was a great experience to revisit these emotions with a brilliant singer like Priyangbada. It goes without saying that the Saregama Music company is a treasure trove of Indian music. I am really honoured that Saregama Music featured me on this song."
He is the second Bangladeshi to be featured by HMV, after the legendary Runa Laila.
This new version of "Mera Kuchh Samaan" was rearranged and programmed by Saikat Biswas, while Vijay Dayal from Yashraj Studios in Mumbai mixed and recorded it. The music video for the song was directed by Shwapnil Shojib, while Subhadip was responsible for the cinematography.
