'I am the last Mughal of the film industry'
Playback legend Asha Bhosle, known as a dynamic stage performer, is gearing up for a Broadway-style show titled "Asha@90" in Dubai to celebrate her 90th birthday on September 8. With a career spanning 80 years, Bhosle shared her excitement during a press interaction at a suburban hotel. She reflected on her journey and revealed her strong belief in destiny.
"I am the last Mughal of the film industry," said Asha in the press meet.
The ambitious musical show, featuring around 55 performers including 23 dancers, promises to take the audience through her illustrious career and treat them to some of her greatest hits. Bhosle clarified that headlining a major stage show at 90 isn't out of the ordinary for her, as she continues to perform actively.
This upcoming show marks her return to the Dubai stage after over a decade, and its success may lead to performances in America or London. The show's repertoire will include a curated selection of classic Bollywood hits, ghazals, and melodies showcasing Bhosle's versatile talent.
During the press meet, admirers and colleagues like actor Jackie Shroff, Poonam Dhillon, and Padmini Kolhapure expressed their fondness for her songs. Bhosle also shared advice for the new generation, emphasizing the importance of hard work and dedication.
Bhosle, who recorded her first song at the age of 10, has sung over 12,000 songs in various Indian languages. Despite the challenges of balancing a successful career with household responsibilities and personal losses, she remains positive, using the lyrics of a song to describe her life's journey.
As Asha Bhosle approaches her 90th year, she continues to ride the wave of public admiration and musical acclaim, cementing her legacy as a beloved icon in the entertainment industry.
