All you have to do is call me: Anupam Roy

Anupam Roy, a name that went on to become the voice of almost every youthful emotion, started his journey with two back-to-back all-time hits, "Beche Thakar Gaan" and "Amake Amar Moto Thakte Dao".

Since then, the singer has bagged numerous hits over the past decade, including "Bariye Dao", "Aami Aajkal Bhalo Aachi", with the background score for the film "Piku" bagging him a Filmfare, and "Tumi Jaake Bhalobasho" bringing him a National Film Award.

During his recent visit for his concert Magical Night, organised by Triple Time Communications in the capital's International Convention City Bashundhara (ICCB), The Daily Star caught up with the singing sensation at the capital's Hotel Sarina to learn of his experience and upcoming ventures.

You were brilliant at the concert. Did you enjoy the experience? 

Though I could not be on stage for as long as I wanted, due to time constraints, I enjoyed however long I was up there. The crowd was amazing as always, and so was the experience.

Tell us one thing you love Dhaka, and one thing that you don't like.  When do you plan on coming back?

The food here is amazing, and that's surely one thing I enjoy about this city. I really don't like the traffic, though!

About my next visit, well, all this city has to do is call me!

Should the audience gear up for more Arnob-Anupam collaborations? 

We both performed at the concert, and it was pleasant. I do not know of Arnob's plans, but if he's up for it, so am I. I will gladly welcome the experience.

Your compositions go straight to the heart. Where does the inspiration come from?

Well, I think it has always been about exploring and observing the nuances of life and experimenting with them. The joys mostly lie in the simplest of things. 

It's all about understanding them, trying out different ways of presenting them. Things don't always work, but isn't that also the beauty of life?

What else are you working on at the moment? What are your plans for the future?

Well, my album "Adrishyo Nagordolar Trip" was released this year, and my next film "Dasham Avatar", directed by Srijit Mukherji, is slated to release soon.

As for the future, I hope to keep writing, composing, and singing melodies and see where that leads me.
