Ibrar Tipu’s musical school of wonders

After contributing to the music industry of Bangladesh for 26 years, singer and music director Ibrar Tipu thought it was the perfect time to open a music academy to spread his knowledge and experience among people who share the same passion for music as him.

With this vision, Tipu established his music academy, Ibrar Tipu Academy of Music in the capital's Banasree area in 2021. In his music academy, he provides all-round training in four different areas of music namely piano, singing, guitar, and music composition.

"I made the music syllabus of my academy by incorporating the syllabus of the best musical institutions in the world, including the Royal School of Music, the Trinity School of Music, the AR Rahman Music School (KM Music Conservatory), and the Berklee Institute of Music. With my 26 years of professional experience in music, I have tried to create an all-around course plan where the students will be benefitted," said Tipu.

Besides taking classes in various musical institutions like Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, Tipu has also judged a few musical reality-shows in Bangladesh. The experience of judging in reality-shows has mainly led him to open a music academy, where music lovers can get the real-life experience of performing on stage in addition to professional training in music.

"In my experience, I have seen that sometimes we find it difficult to select a hundred contestants out of thousands. Some are from renowned music institutions but fail to pass the audition round. The main reason is that they don't have professional training in music. They don't learn how to properly use the mic when singing or how to perform on stage. That's why they find it difficult to be selected for any musical reality-shows," said Tipu. 

"By focusing on these issues, I have designed my singing course so that a student can learn about Indian and Western classical music together. We also teach staff notations of Western opera so that our students get world-class music lessons and perform on the international platform," he added.

Protic Hasan, Ibrar Tipu to judge ‘Young Star’

The Ibrar Tipu Academy of Music provides four courses. Each course duration starts at 6 months and extends up to 4 years. Certificates will be given every two years. Besides professional training, one has the chance to perform in various cultural shows and seminars so that one can gain practical knowledge on how to perform on stage. They also provide online courses simultaneously with offline courses so that students from all over Bangladesh can learn music.

"Sometimes, the best ones get to perform with renowned musicians of our country. We also introduce them to the noted musicians of our country so that they can see their lifestyle up close and gain knowledge and perspective from them," said Tipu.

Tipu never wants to compromise on the quality of his music academy. That's why he always redesigns the syllabus of his music academy as per the global standard.

"My dream is to make this music academy a world-class music institution in our country. I also have plans to establish a university for learning music," Ibrar Tipu concluded.
