Kaaktaal to host ‘Borshonabeg’ concert tomorrow
The concert titled "Borshonabeg" organised by the band Kaaktaal has been inspired by one of their signature songs of the same name. The event was set to occur on a rainy day during the Bengali month of Srabon (July 17). However, the band postponed the concert due to the country's uncertain political situation at that time.
Now, with the monsoon season behind us and autumn gracing the landscape, the much-anticipated concert is set to make a comeback. Tomorrow (Friday), the band—popular majorly among the youth—is ready to return to the stage. They will thus host the "Borshonabeg" concert at the National Library Auditorium in Agargaon, Dhaka.
Asif Iqbal, the lead vocalist of Kaaktaal, shared with Prothom Alo yesterday that the concert will primarily feature the band's monsoon-themed songs, with a couple of other tracks included in the setlist.
In a statement, Kaaktaal mentioned, "This concert was initially planned to coincide with the onset of the monsoon season. Now, we have the chance to use the proceeds from celebrating the beauty of the monsoons to support those affected by it. We hope you will join us in this effort."
Organised by Rhythm Revolution, the event will also feature performances from another band alongside Kaaktaal.
Kaaktaal's track "Rokto Gorom Matha Thanda", released during the height of the anti-discrimination students movement, has garnered widespread attention. Following this, the band dropped two more impactful tracks titled "Vorosha Ase" and "Shikkhar Jobanbondi". Another song reflecting on the movement is currently awaiting release.
Kaaktaal has released a total of six albums to date. The band's current lineup includes Asif Iqbal, who serves as the composer, vocalist, lyricist, and guitarist; Nazm Anwr on the flute; Alex Joven handling drums and percussion; Soumya Anindya Riddho on bass guitar; and Antar on keyboards.
