Suharto receives legal notice to stop performing Arbovirus songs
A legal notice has been issued to Suharto Sherif, guitarist of popular rock band Arbovirus. As per the notice, he has been told to refrain from performing in live shows and releasing any of his own songs under the banner of Arbovirus.
The notice was sent on Sunday, June 25, by advocate Zahid Hasan Fahad on behalf of the original band members, Asif Asgar Ranjan, Sufi Maverick, Aldnane Alam and Nafeez Al Amin.
The notice read, "Arbovirus is one of the well-established bands in Bangladesh. Asif Asgar Ranjan and the other members formed this band in 2001. Later, Sufi Maverick, Aldnane Alam and Nafeez Al Amin joined the band and through their hard work and dedication, made a place for themselves in the public's hearts."
"It has recently been noticed that Suharto Sherif has been performing in live shows under the name of the band, without the permission of the original members. Suharto has also entered into commercial agreements with various individuals and organisations, using the band's name and logo," continued the notice.
"At present, Arbovirus, formed by Asif Asgar Ranjan, Sufi Maverick, Aldnane Alam and Nafeez Al Amin, in accordance with the existing laws of the country, is jointly registered as 'M/s ARBOVIRUS' under the Office of the Registrar of Joint Stock Companies and Firms. As such, contracts with any person or organisation, performances of live shows, publishing of music, publishing of audio-visual content, album recording, etc. by Suharto Sherif, using the Arbovirus name, will be considered illegal and will be prosecuted under the existing laws of the country," the notice further expanded.
"Additionally, defamation and irreparable harm has been caused to the Arbovirus band and their families in the media and other related media of the country. From the day of receipt of the notice, Suharto Sherif should refrain from publishing any new songs, performing any live shows, using the name of Arbovirus. He has also been informed to avoid entering into any contract or agreement using the bands name. Otherwise, he will be taken to court and prosecuted as per the existing civil and criminal laws of the country," concluded the notice.
