Ustad Alauddin Khan’s 50th death anniversary to be commemorated at AFD today
Music Alliance Worldwide Foundation and Alliance Française de Dhaka will commemorate the 50th death anniversary of one of the greatest South Asian musicians of all time, Sangeet Acharya Ustad Baba Alauddin Khan.
The event will take place at La Gallerie, Alliance Française de Dhaka, and will feature renowned musicians including Ustad Yousuf Ali Khan, Shiraz Ali Khan, Khurram Ali Niazi, Ebadul Huq Shaikat, Murtaza Kabir Murad, Mainak Biswas, Zakir Hossen, Dwiptanil Bhattacharjee, Chamon Faria Islam, Rabin Chowdhury, Matiur Rahman and Sreyasi Bhowmik Sneha.
Ustad Alauddin Khan laid the foundation of a modern Maihar gharana after developing a number of ragas, which are still revered to this day. In 1955, Khan established a college of music in Maihar.
Hisson Ali Akbar Khan, daughter Annapurna Devi, nephew Raja Hossain Khan and grandson Aashish Khan all went on to become renowned musicians. Some of his famous students are Ravi Shankar, Nikhil Banerjee, V.G. Jog, Vasant Rai, Shripad Bandopdhyay, Pannalal Ghosh, Bahadur Khan, Rabin Ghosh, Sharan Rani, Nalin Mazumdar, Jotin Bhattacharya, Rajesh Chandra Moitra and W. D. Amaradeva.
The open-for-all musical soiree will start from 6 pm, and go on till 9 pm.
