Bangladeshi artist’s painting going to the moon
Salbhi Sumaiya, a talented Canada-based artist who also operates as MerakiStudio.Art, painted a beautiful painting of a wolf and her cub, called "Maternal instinct" , which is now destined to go to the moon.
The painting has been selected to be on the Lunar Codex along with 30,000 other arts from different artists. According to the website, the Lunar Codex is a time capsule that archives artistic information from Earth, to be sent to the moon.
Samuel Peralta, a semi-retired physicist and art collector from Canada is leading the effort. He has gathered artwork from 30,000 artists, writers, filmmakers and musicians from 157 countries, and the works are divided into a total of four time capsules.
The first is called the Orion Collection, which has already been to space as part of Nasa's Artemis 1 mission and returned to Earth in late 2022.
According to the website, the other three capsules -- the Nova Collection, the Peregrine Collection, and the Polaris Collection will land on the moon over the next few years.
Apart from "Maternal Instinct", Lunar Codex will carry "Meraki Studio" (2022), a powerful film that showcases Sumaiya's artistic vision.
Currently based in Toronto, Canada, Sumaiya had majored in Fine Arts from SMUCT, Dhaka, along with a degree in Graphic Design and Multimedia.
Her artwork "Maternal Instinct" can be viewed on the Lunar Codex website.
