Mousumi Mou awarded in Morocco
Anchor, actor and mime artiste Mousumi Mou won the Best Female Performer award at the 35th International University Theatre Festival 2023 Casablanca, Morocco.
She is the member of Dhaka University Mime Action (DUMA), a mime group primarily initiated by renowned mime artiste Mir Lokman.
The festival began on July 24, and will conclude on July 29 at Casablanca, Morocco.
Participants from countries including Bangladesh, France, Germany, Italy, Morocco, Tunisia, and Saudi Arabia performed at the event.
Awards were given in 7 categories including—Best Choreography (Italy), Best Scenography (Italy), Best Actor male (Morocco), Best Actress (Bangladesh), Best Director (Germany), Best Script Writer (Morocco), and The Special Prize of Jury (Morocco).
Elated Mou told The Daily Star that winning the award among multiple female artistes seemed like a dream to her. "I was happy to learn that at least I am nominated, but when I actually won the award, I couldn't believe it."
She also informed us that each team had more female participants, so the competition was tough.
On Thursday, the team performed four sketches of 40 minutes each, which were titled as– "Oshikriti", 'Chair: The Sign of Power", 'Bhalobasha', and "Otopor, Shubodh Palabe na aar'.
The production was staged in collaboration with the Institute of Mime and Movement, an academic platform for mime action and puppetry.
Written and directed by Mir Lokman and Shahriar Shaon, it stars Mousumi Mou, Sohan, Shahriar Shaon and Mir Lokman.
DUMA was formed on February 27, 2011 at the primary initiative of Mir Lokman.
The organisation has already participated in more than seven hundred events both nationally and internationally in countries including—India, South Korea, China and Armenia.
