Remembering Syed Badruddin Hossain: Theatre festival underway
On May 12, well known theatre troupe, Padatik Natya Sangsad kicked-off a week-long theatre festival, "Syed Badruddin Hossain Smrity Natyautsab o Smarak Sammanona 2022-23" at the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA).
The festival was organised to mark the birth centenary of the legendary playwright, Syed Badruddin Hossain, who had served as Padatik's president until his passing in 2009. At the festival, thirteen Bangladeshi theatre troupes, along with four Indian theatre troupes, will be staging a total of 21 plays.
Padatik will also honour the late Bangajit Dutta and Debaprasad Debnath with the Syed Badruddin Hossain Smarak Sammanona 2022. Additionally, the theatre troupe will also honour the late Masum Aziz and Tariq Anam Khan with Syed Badruddin Hossain Smarak Sammanona 2023.
Local theatre groups including Padatik Natya Sangsad, Dhaka Padatik, Nattokendro, Aranyak Natyadal, Prachyanat, Lokonatyadal, Sundaram, drama and dramatics department of Jahangirnagar University, Anuswar, and many others will be participating in this festival.
The Indian troupes, who shall be performing their plays, include Chakdaha Nattyajan, Kasba Arghya, 10th Planet Theatre Group and Baguiati Nritya Mandir. Alongside the staging of theatre shows, the festival will also feature street plays, mime shows, music and recitation shows on the BSA premises. The "Syed Badruddin Hossain Smrity Natyautsab o Smarak Sammanona 2022-23" will end on May 18.
