Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy has officially designated three of its auditoriums to theatrical performances. The academy's Director General Syed Jamil Ahmed, announced that these auditoriums are being renamed. Speaking at an event held at the academy's Experimental Theatre Hall yesterday, he further stated that the Experimental Theatre Hall will be opened for theatrical productions starting December 28.

On Friday evening, the Drama and Film Department of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy organised a stand-up comedy performance centred around contemporary social and political realities.

At the Experimental Theatre Hall of the academy, the event titled "Joke Er Rajneeti" featured humorous performances by Akhlak Siddiqui, Shawon Majumder, Syed Ridwan Hossain Bipro, Mahedi Hasan Toru, and Sami Doha, among others.

At the inaugural event, Syed Jamil Ahmed shared, "The Shilpakala Academy is always people-friendly. We do not wish to impose anything forcefully. We aim to create an inclusive and people-centric environment. Our programmes are not limited to Dhaka but are also held in various districts."

"From photography training for garment workers to nationwide concerts, band shows, Jatra festivals, Sadhumela, songs of mass uprisings, debates, sculpture exhibitions, and more – a wide array of programmes are being organised. Many of these events have not been held in the past 15 years," he added.

The director general revealed that the Experimental Theatre Hall has been renamed Selim Al Deen Natyalay, the Studio Theatre Hall as Chandrabati Natyalay, and the National Theatre Hall will now be known as Kabi Alaol Natyalay.

During the event, it was announced that the Buno Payra team will present the second episode of their standup comedy series, Standup Bangladesh, which addresses contemporary social and political issues. The performance is scheduled for 7pm on December 27 at the Selim Al Deen Natyalay (previously Experimental Theatre Hall).
