Street theatre ‘Lal Majlum’ revisits historic uprisings

A peaceful performance program, in the form of a street theatre titled "Lal Majlum" commenced at Dhaka University's Raju Memorial Sculpture last Saturday at 4:00pm, marking the tragic events of the historic mass uprising of July-August. 

This community-funded mobile performance progressed and flowed, staged across various locations inside the university campus, before concluding at the Shahbag National Museum.

Lal Majlum is a theatre production directed by Dr. Shahman Moishan.  The play is a distinctive street play funded through public contributions. It sheds light on the violent legacy of the student-led mass uprising while interweaving the region's pivotal mass uprisings throughout history.

Students from both public and private universities, along with artistes participated in the play. Through their presentation, they showcased our historical journey and urged the current generation to relate to past struggles.

Songs, plays, poetry, and theatrical acts in "Lal Majlum" reignited the audience's sense of rebellion and activism. During the closing event at the Shahbagh intersection, viewers praised the performance as a distinctive approach to revisiting historical events.
