19 films receive government grant
The government of Bangladesh has been up front about supporting the film industry, providing funds since 1976-77 fiscal year. Amidst the pandemic last year, the highest number of films were provided a handsome amount of fund, to encourage the film industry. This year, 19 films have received the grant, to the elation of directors, actors and the crew linked to the projects.
After the announcement of budget, earlier this month, the final list of the films which received government fund in the fiscal year 2021-22, has been published by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, yesterday.
The highest amount of funds has been granted to Amitabh Reza Chowdhury -- BDT 75 lakhs for his venture "1969". The second highest amount of BDT 70 lakhs has been given to Masud Hasan Ujjal's "Bonolata Sen", Marufa Akhter Poppy's "Bangabandhu's Renu" and "Bokul Kotha", the jointly directed by Masud Mohiuddin and Mahmud Hasan Sikder. All of these films have been categorized in the general section.
On the other hand, two films have been selected in the Liberation War-based section. They are—Mohammad Khorshedul Alam Khandokar's "Joy Banglar Dhoni" and Rafiqul Anwar Rasel's "Ekattor-Kortole Chhinnomatha".
Shakib Khan's latest film, "Maya", is also on the list receiving a grant worth BDT 65 lakhs. The film will be directed by Himel Ashraf. While Sara Zaker's produced film, "Antorkhola" which will be directed by Ratan Kumar Pal, has received BDT 60 lakhs.
Meanwhile, Apu Biswas as a producer has obtained BDT 65 lakhs for her film "Laal Sharee", which is being directed by Bandhan Biswas.
The "Haribol" famed director Reza Ghatok has acquired BDT 60 lakhs, for his forthcoming feature film "Dodo'r Golpo" (Story of Dodo).
Other films also on the list are— "Juddho Jibon" by Rifat Mostafa, "Japito Jibon" by Habibul Islam Habib, "Otopor Rokeya" by Shamim Akhter, "Arjee" by Kamal Mohammad Kibria, "Eito Jibon" by Syed Ali Haider Rizvi "Ahare Jibon" by Chhotku Ahmed, along with "Bhashar Jonno Momotaz" by Sarwar Tamizuddin, "Bicharaloy" by Sharaf Ahmed Jibon, and "Muktir Chhoto Golpo" jointly directed by Syed Maswood Zakaria Chowdhury and Abdus Samad Khokon.
The film crews who have received the grant have thanked the government for their steadfast initiative to revive the film industry.
