Prabhas starrer "Adipurush" has landed in trouble, as fundamentalist group Hindu Sena has filed a writ petition against the movie for allegedly hurting religious sentiment.

Vishnu Gupta, National President of the Hindu Sena, has launched a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) against the film, claiming that it mocks the Hindu epic Ramayana, Hindu Gods and Goddesses, and Hindu culture.

"This is a writ petition in the form of public interest litigation under Article 226 of the Constitution of India praying for the issuance of an appropriate writ in the nature of directing the respondents to remove objectionable scenes depicting religious leaders/characters/figures in bad taste and issues a writ of mandamus to the respondents directing them not to certify the feature film 'Adipurush' for public exhibition and pass such other or further order as this Court may pass," the petition states.

The petition requests that the objectional scenes depicting the Hindu gods Ram, Ravana, Sita, and Hanuman be removed. It said that the depiction of these deities in the film is inaccurate and inappropriate, and that it contradicts Ramayana depictions of religious personalities.

The action flick debuted to mixed reviews on Friday. Some supporters even secured seats in honor of Lord Hanuman, a mythical hero from the Ramayana. There were also tales of a man getting beaten up for criticising the film in Hyderabad.

The film's producers, who reportedly spent Rs 500 crores on it, undertook a major promotional campaign ahead of its release. Om Raut, the director, declared during the trailer launch that a place will be reserved for Lord Hanuman in every screening.

Fans took to social media hours after the film's premiere to criticize its poor visual effects and childish speech.

The film stars Prabhas as Raghav, Kriti Sanon as Janaki and Saif Ali Khan as Lankesh in lead roles.
