Cannot use Amitabh Bachchan’s name, image without authorisation: Delhi High Court
Veteran Indian actor, Amitabh Bachchan recently filed a lawsuit, which claimed that the actor's image and voice had been used, without his prior notice, to promote goods and services by certain companies.
As a result, the lawsuit stated that his status as a celebrity had been exploited by certain companies. In response, the Delhi High Court passed an interim order, restricting the unauthorised use of Bachchan's name, image, voice and personality by any other party, on Friday.
Multiple websites and platforms have used the renowned "Kaun Banega Crorepati" (KBC) host's name, image and voice, without his permission. Such was the case for "KBC lottery", that used the actor's image and voice on WhatsApp messages to popularise the lottery.
"It is undisputed that Bachchan is a well-known personality and is likely to suffer an irreparable loss and disrepute if relief is not granted at this stage," said Justice Navin Chawla.
The court also ordered telecom authorities to shut down websites which are using Bachchan's image, without his authorisation.
