After two months of strict lockdown, cinema halls have reopened recently. However, as of now, they are mainly screening old movies.

For the past eight months, the few movies that were newly released have not had much luck at the box office. This is why producers and directors agreed to not exhibit them in movie theatres yet.

Among the latest movie releases, there is "Nabab LLB" and "Koshai", directed by Anonno Mamun, Habibur Rahman's "Alatchakra", "Sfulingo", directed by Tauquir Ahmed, Selim Khan's "Tungi Parar Miya Bhai" and "Shoubhaggo", directed by F I Manik.

"Nabab LLB" will be shown in Shyamoli Cinema Hall and Chitra Mahal. Movie theatres outside of Dhaka are sticking to old movies.

Star Cineplex's Sony Square at Mirpur-2 is now showing Hollywood films, at its three halls. Their Mirpur branch was launched on a limited scale from August 20.

Mesbah Uddin Ahmed, Senior Marketing Officer of Star Cineplex, noted that movies are being screened in accordance with the government's guidelines.

Ananda and Chondo Cinema Hall's Manager Shamsuddin told the Daily Star, "In order to save cinema halls, we need good commercial films. There is no other way. For how long can we bank on old movies? New and big budget movies will generate bigger revenues."
