Deepa Khandakar reflects on her 25-year career
After starting her career with the television drama, "Kaktarua", noted actor Deepa Khandakar has been in the showbiz industry for over two decades. She only recently completed 25 years in the industry. In recent times, she paired up with Afzal Hossain for a film directed by Syed Salahuddin Zaki.
In a candid conversation with The Daily Star, Deepa talked about her career and reflected on her 25-year-long career and more.
Congratulations on completing 25 years in the industry. Which achievements do you look back on fondly?
Everything I have gotten is an achievement in my 25 year-long-career. It feels nice to complete 25 years in this industry, with all the love and respect I have received. I didn't take any breaks in my career and have been acting regularly in the television industry for a long time. Some people say television is a temporary medium. However, I don't agree. It's an outstanding achievement for me that people know me through this medium.
So, do you have no regrets?
In the life of an artiste, there will always be some regrets or something they never got to achieve. Sometimes I didn't get the character I loved. No matter how much you try, there will be something you won't get. However, I would say I am happy with my achievements regardless.
Why have you never taken to directing?
I didn't feel the urge to direct any projects, all I ever wanted to do was acting. I didn't want a hundred identities; rather, I wanted just one identity—that of an actor. I always wanted to act wholeheartedly. However, I might direct in the future, if it's a government-granted children's film or a short film.
How challenging has your journey been?
I never had to struggle due to my career. My debut television drama was "Kaktarua", directed by Kazi Shahidul Islam. I got more than what I asked for through this project. I got the chance to work with popular actors of that time like Zahid Hasan, Tauquir Ahmed, Tony Dias, Mahfuz Ahmed, and Azizul Hakim.
How happy are you with your career?
I am very happy and content with my career. I have no regrets. Also, I got to spend quality time with my family, alongside my work. My family is also happy for me.
You will be seen opposite Afzal Hossain for an upcoming film. Can we learn any updates?
The name of the film is "Oporajeyo" and it is being directed by Syed Salahuddin Zaki. The shooting of the film has been completed recently. A few of my other films are also awaiting release.
