‘Dui Shaw’ earns spot at prestigious SXSW Film Festival
The Chorki original series "Dui Shaw" deviates from traditional horror tropes and since its release, it has been lauded for its masterful portrayal of human desires and rage through gripping tales of fear. Viewers have also praised the series for its exceptional quality, noting that it elevates local storytelling to an international standard.
"Dui Shaw" has swiftly found its way into the international festival circuit. Directed by Nuhash Humayun, the series was selected for the South by Southwest (SXSW) Film Festival shortly after its complete release on the OTT platform Chorki. The four-episode series is set to premiere in the Episodic category of the festival, which will run from March 7 to 15.
Nuhash personally confirmed the news through his social media platforms, affirming, "News is out! 'Dui Shaw' will have its international premiere at the 2025 SXSW Film & TV Festival. Previous series to have premiered at SXSW include HBO's 'Barry', 'Silicon Valley', 'Mr Robot', 'Girls' and 'What We Do' in the Shadows."
He then expressed his gratitude to the entire team, stating, "This is all thanks to the best cast and crew ever. Every department has come together to create something specific, local yet international in standard. It is an honour to work with you all. You're not just the best in Bangladesh, you're the best in the world."
The first season of the series, "Pett Kata Shaw", notably debuted at the Rotterdam Film Festival. Redoan Rony, the producer of the series and CEO of Chorki, expressed his excitement about the second season being selected for an international festival as well.
He stated, "With two seasons, 'Shaw' has become a recognised brand. The series exemplifies how local content can achieve international acclaim. The storytelling, concept, and execution of 'Dui Shaw' are even more timeless, earning praise not only from audiences at home but also providing a unique experience for foreign juries and critics."
The episodes for the second season written by Nuhash Humayun and his mother, Gultekin Khan, include "Waqt", "Bhaggo Bhalo", "Antara", and "Beshura", each offering a unique perspective.
The story "Bhaggo Bhalo" revolves around an astrologer who gained viral fame. The story of "Antara" revolves around a supernatural marital life, while "Beshura" explores the tale of an artiste born devoid of melody and rhythm. In "Waqt", the narrative follows five friends, each experiencing distinct outcomes at five different moments in time.
