I had 50 years of friendship with Farooque: Uzzal
Legendary actor and member of parliament, Farooque's sudden demise today left an indefinable void in the hearts of his fans. Throughout his illustrious career, he has made tons of wonderful friends in showbiz which includes his 50-year-old friendship with Uzzal. Both actors debuted in silver screen in 1970 and created a strong impact on fans with their credulous performance.
Bangladeshi megastar Uzzal spoke to The Daily Star and reminisced old memories with Farooque and how their friendship shaped in the world of showbiz.
Both Farooque and I knew each other before the independence, in 1970. We started our acting career in that same year. Farooque debuted with "Jolchhobi" while my first film was "Binimoy." Our friendship which blossomed in the initial year of struggle blossomed into a strong friendship which lasted till his death. We had such strong love for each other, I just can't believe he is no longer with us.
Our friendship is like the golden era of Bangladeshi cinema - truly pure and priceless. We were both part of politics and had completely different opinion. Nevertheless, this didn't affect us as our bond was too strong to be affected by it.
We both had our offices in Kakrail, that too in the same building. Our rooms were nearby, and so we had many wonderful conversations there. We have talked about how we can improve our film industry, and reach out to more people. We even took part in organisations such as Shilpi Samity and Film producers association. We have dedicated our entire life to the film industry.
Farooque and I used to address each other as 'Tui', and never had to use the word 'apni' as our relationship was never formal.
The eighties were the best period of our life and the most glorious period of film industry. We gave our heart and soul for the sake of our film industry. I can't believe he has left the world and made me all alone. My heartiest condolence for the evergreen actor. May God bless him with Janat.
