Keanu Reeves to return as John Wick in ‘Ballerina’ spinoff
Keanu Reeves is likely to play John Wick in Ana de Armas' "Ballerina", a women-centric spinoff of the blockbuster action franchise.
Ana de Armas plays a teenage female assassin in Ballerina who seeks vengeance on those who murdered her family, according to Variety. Producer Basil Iwanyk described McShane's part as "pivotal," although he did not give any further plot details. If Reeves' contract is approved, it's unclear how he'll fit into the story.
"We're happy to have Ian McShane join us for a critical part in Ballerina. He's been a part of the series since the first John Wick. It's been great having him along for the ride as the Wick world grows," Iwanyk told Variety.
"Ballerina" is directed by Len Wiseman and written by Shay Hatten.
Reeves and McShane will return in "John Wick: Chapter 4", which will be released in theaters on March 24, 2023.
The first three films in the action-packed retribution trilogy were commercial successes, grossing $587 million worldwide.
