Meryl Streep and husband Don Gummer have been separated for six years
Meryl Streep and sculptor Don Gummer have reached the end of their four decade-long marriage. The couple have four children and five grandchildren between them.
The couple, who had been married since 1978, separated more than six years ago, stated the spokeswoman for the actress.
According to Page Six, Streep continues to wear her wedding band even after the split. It was seen on her finger at the Princesa de Asturias Awards in northwest Spain on Friday, for example. Vanity Fair reached out to Streep for comment, but has yet to hear back from the actress.
According to a statement from the Oscar winner's representative, "Don Gummer and Meryl Streep have been separated for more than six years, and while they will always care for each other, they have chosen lives apart."
On September 30, the pair celebrated their 45th marriage anniversary.
Gummer, a sculptor from Louisville, Kentucky, and Streep met in 1978 through Streep's brother. She was mourning the death of her partner, fellow actor John Cazale, who died of lung cancer at the time.
The couple felt an instant connection. Six months later, they married at her parents' house.
Neither Streep nor Gummer has revealed much about their love lives over the years, but they have been pictured together on occasion.
Though Streep's personal life is rarely revealed in public, Gummer was the first person she acknowledged after she got the Best Actress Oscar for her performance in The Iron Lady in 2012.
"First, I'm going to thank Don because when you thank your husband at the end of the speech, they play him out with the music, and I want him to know that everything I value most in our lives, you've given me," she went on to say.
Streep and Gummer have four children: 30-year-old Louisa Jacobson, 37-year-old actress Grace Gummer, 40-year-old actress Mamie Gummer, and 43-year-old singer/songwriter Henry Wolfe. They also have five grandchildren.
