No memorial plaque for Salman Shah at BFDC in 25 years

Today would have been celebrated actor Salman Shah’s 50th birthday. Born on this day in 1971 in Sylhet, he starred in 27 movies in his brief acting career. Known as a style icon amongst his fans and co-artistes, Salman Shah shot all over the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC) throughout his career. Yet, sadly, there is no memorial plaque or shooting floor dedicated to him at its premises.

"This is indeed a sad occurrence. Salman Shah was the prince of the industry. A floor at the BFDC should have been named after him a long time ago. There is Salman Shah Bhavan in Sylhet, his birthplace. I think that venue should be looked after properly. I hope the BFDC will soon name  a floor after Salman Shah, once some legal issues are sorted out," said Sohanur Rahman Sohan, who directed the actor in "Keyamot Theke Keyamot".

"Back in 2017, we had submitted an official letter to the BFDC authorities to have the third or fourth floor of the premises named after Salman Shah. At the time, the authorities had claimed that both of those floors will be demolished. After that, this matter did not make any further progress," said Zayed Khan, General Secretary, Cholochitro Shilpi Samiti. "In my opinion, there should be a memorial plaque or shooting floor at the BFDC in honour of Salman Shah. After all, he was a beloved artiste."

Salman Shah made his debut in 1994 alongside Moushumi in "Keyamot Theke Keyamot". The pair went on to work in films like "Ontore Ontore", "Den Mohor", and "Sneho". He also made a hit pair with Shabnur in films like "Tumi Amar", "Shujon Sokhi", "Jibon Shongshaar", "Ananda Osru", and "Shopner Thikana", among many others.

Salman Shah passed away 25 years ago on September 6, 1996, leaving his legions of fans and well-wishers behind.
