Prabir Mitra hospitalised as health deteriorates

Veteran actor Prabir Mitra has been hospitalised due to severe health issues. Facing complications from oxygen deficiency and other ailments, he was admitted to a private medical facility in the capital on December 22. His younger son, Sifat Islam, confirmed the news to the daily Prothom Alo.

On Saturday afternoon, Sifat Islam, son of renowned actor Prabir Mitra, shared with Prothom Alo that his father's health has been steadily declining. The 79-year-old was admitted to the hospital on December 22 due to complications associated with aging. Initially placed in the ICU for oxygen deficiency, he was later shifted to a cabin. However, his condition worsened, necessitating a transfer to the High Dependency Unit (HDU). Despite medical efforts, his health continues to deteriorate, with ongoing blood loss and a significant drop in platelet count.

Born on August 18, 1943, in Chandina, Cumilla, Prabir Mitra spent his formative years in Old Dhaka, where his passion for acting took root. His early exposure to theatre began during his school days, and he notably performed in "Dak Ghar", a celebrated play by Rabindranath Tagore.

In 1969, Prabir Mitra made his cinematic debut under the direction of the story H. Akbar in "Jolchhobi". Although his first on-screen appearance was filmed that year, the movie premiered on January 1, 1971.

Initially, the actor appeared in a few lead roles, but his ability to bring characters to life on-screen truly captivated audiences, earning him widespread acclaim for his depth and versatility.

With a career spanning over four hundred films, he delivered remarkable performances in notable titles incljuding, "Titash Ekti Nadir Naam", "Jibon Trishna", "Seyana", "Jaliat", "Fariyad", "Rokto Shopoth", "Charitrohin", "Joy Porajoy", "Angaar", "Mintu Amar Naam", "Fakir Majnu Shah", "Madhumita", "Ashanto Dheu", "Alongkar", "Anurag", "Protigya", "Torulota", "Gayer Chele", and "Putrobodhu", among others.
