Anjana taken to BFDC, colleagues bid a tearful farewell
A somber atmosphere enveloped the BFDC (Bangladesh Film Development Corporation), as the vehicle carrying the body of Anjana arrived.
For the last time, Anjana returned to FDC, though she had already left this earthly realm. At 11:25 am on Saturday, the car carrying the actress's remains reached the premises, creating a sorrowful scene.
Colleagues, fans, and journalists gathered to pay their final respects to the celebrated actress. Following the first Janaza (funeral prayer) after the Zuhr prayer, her body was taken to the Channel i premises for a second Janaza. Later, she was laid to rest at Banani Cemetery.
Actors Alamgir, Ujjal, Ilias Kanchan, Nuton, and Misha Sawdagor, who is also the president of the Bangladesh Film Artistes' Association, were among those present at the FDC to bid farewell. Others included actor Mehedi, Subrata, Nasrin, actress Apu Biswas, Joy Chowdhury, and Romana Mukti. Directors such as Chhotku Ahmed, Shaheen Sumon, Mushfiqur Rahman Gulzar, Chayanika Chowdhury, and producer-leader Khorshed Alam Khosru were also in attendance.
Representatives from various organisations within the film industry, including the Producers' Association, the Bangladesh Film Exhibitors' Association, and the Cinematographers' Association, were also present.
Actress Nuton reminisced about her bond with Anjana, saying, "We walked this journey together for years. We were like sisters. We laughed and joked so much wherever we went that people thought we were real sisters. The last time we met was on 6 December. It's hard to imagine I won't see her again."
Misha Sawdagor commented, "The void left by Anjana Apa cannot be filled. Beyond being a brilliant artiste, she was an exceptionally kind-hearted person. We will miss her cheerful, smiling face. Everyone, please pray for her departed soul."
Actor Ujjal shared, "Before becoming a film actress, she was a renowned dancer in the country. I remember how she was invited to perform at prestigious state functions and for foreign dignitaries. Her performances were widely acclaimed. Later, she transitioned to films and left her mark in many timeless productions. This is the fate of us all; our work will remain even after we are gone. Let us always cherish the memories of those who have departed."
Actors Alamgir and Ilias Kanchan refrained from speaking to the media, citing their emotional state as the reason.
Anjana Rahman, a National Film Award-winning actress, passed away at 1:10 am on Friday at the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) in Dhaka. Reports state that the popular actress had been unwell for three weeks. Initially, she experienced recurring fevers and chills. Despite medication, her condition did not improve. Eventually, a blood infection was diagnosed.
She was admitted to a private hospital in Dhaka, where she spent several days in the ICU. When her condition showed no significant improvement, she was transferred to Bangabandhu Medical University last Wednesday. Her health deteriorated further that night, requiring her to be placed on life support. While on ventilation, her condition fluctuated, but ultimately, she passed away.
Before her acting career, Anjana was recognised as a celebrated dancer. In 1976, she began her journey in Dhaka cinema with the film Setu, directed by Babul Chowdhury. However, her first released film was "Dasyu Bonhur", directed by Shamsuddin Togor, opposite actor Sohel Rana. Following its success, Anjana rose to prominence, acting opposite nearly all the leading actors of Dhaka cinema during her prime.
