Rony stays strong in hospital, cracks jokes
"Doctor, this is the first time I have come to the hospital. That's why so many people are here. If I come here a second time, then I am sure no one else will come," joked comedian Abu Hena Rony, while lying in the ICU bed at the hospital.
Earlier today, around 10:30 am, Dr Samanta Lal Sen—coordinator at Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery—provided The Daily Star an update on the condition of Rony over the phone.
"His physical condition remains unchanged. The medical board will sit at 1 pm today. Afterwards, we will reveal further details," said Dr Sen.
On Saturday, Rony's friend and business partner, Sohel Ahmed, told The Daily Star, "When Rony was taken to the ICU, many people were gathered at the hospital. The hospital's staff struggled to handle the crowd. The people of the hospital struggled to handle the crowd."
"When the situation became heated, Rony tried to calm everyone down. He called the doctor and explained that since this was the first time he had come to the hospital, many people had showed up to see him," mentioned Sohel, adding, "Rony's morale did not decline even after he suffered 25 percent burns to his body. He spoke to everyone with a smile and even consoled his family members."
Sohel also told The Daily Star that, during the third year of his time in Rajshahi University, Rony took part in the popular reality show, "Mirakkel", in Kolkata.
Numerous fans from both sides of Bengal took to social media to wish Rony a speedy recovery.
In a Facebook post, Mir Afsar Ali, a popular presenter and media personality from West Bengal, asked fans to pray for the comedian. In his Facebook post, the "Mirakkel" presenter wrote, "Abu Hena Rony himself is a fire. Who can burn him? I request everyone to pray for him."
Five people, including standup comedian Abu Hena Rony, were injured in a gas balloon blast during the Gazipur Metropolitan Police's anniversary programme on Friday. They were first taken to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital. Afterwards, Rony and Zillur Rahman were sent to Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, due to the severity of their injuries. 25 percent of Rony's body was burned.
On Saturday, Dr Samanta Lal Sen revealed that the comedian was kept in the High Dependency Unit after the initial dressing of his wounds. Even though his airway had only been slightly burnt, Dr Sen had stated that he was not out of danger.
Rony has been kept under close observation in the ICU. At the time, Dr Sen noted, "Although his trachea is only slightly burn, it cannot be said that he is free of danger."
Although his hands, ears, parts of his mouth and airway were slightly burnt, his morale did not decline.
