Shabana’s name is synonymous with box-office hits: Ujjal
Today marks the birthday of iconic actress, Shabana, whose impact on the film industry is immeasurable. Even today, a song from the film "Anubhob", featuring Shabana and Ujjal, titled "Jodi Sundor Ekta Mukh Paitam", continues to captivate audiences.
The Shabana-Ujjal pairing created a sensation with their super-hit movies, with "Naseeb" standing out as their most successful collaboration.
In an exclusive interview with The Daily Star, Ujjal pays tribute to Shabana on her special day.
Ujjal describes her as the most amiable and welcoming personality in the industry. "Despite her stature, Shabana remains down-to-earth and treats everyone with respect and warmth. She effortlessly connects with people at all levels within the film fraternity, making them feel like family," said Ujjal.
"Shabana's achievements speak volumes about her character. She possesses a generous heart that allows everyone in the industry to feel comfortable in her presence. Her sincerity and genuine care for her colleagues make her a rare gem in the film world," he added.
"There are only a handful of actresses as successful as Shabana in the industry. Her name is synonymous with box-office hits. Even after being away from the silver screen for over two decades, she continues to hold a special place in everyone's hearts. How is this possible? It can only be attributed to her kind nature and big heart. This is her true accomplishment," Ujjal continued.
Ujjal reminisced about his initial encounters with Shabana, sharing that she was the leading lady in his second movie, "Anubhob". The movie became a hit, and that's when he realised the magic of their on-screen chemistry. Since then, their pair was a recipe for success.
Shabana was already a star when Ujjal entered the industry. He vividly recalls being an avid viewer of her movie "Chokori" and admiring her talent from afar. To this day, "Chokori" remains one of his favourite films.
Ujjal fondly recalls shooting the movie "Shomadhan" in Gorai, Savar, where they filmed a romantic boat scene accompanied by a melodious song. The song, "Prem Jeno Ek Godhuli Belar", still resonates with audiences today.
"Shabana's journey to stardom was not an overnight success. It was the result of relentless dedication and hard work. She is undoubtedly the grand dame of the subcontinent's film industry, renowned and beloved across borders," Ujjal asserted.
Reflecting on their second movie together, which was initially scheduled for release on March 2, 1971, but postponed due to the Liberation War, Ujjal recalls the moment when the film finally hit theatres after the country gained independence.
"The overwhelming response from the audience is still a favourite memory of mine," he said.
As a producer, Ujjal had the privilege of collaborating with Shabana on several projects. Among them, "Naseeb" stands out as one of the biggest hits. The memories of working with Shabana and the ensemble cast in that film continue to resonate with him.
"Despite being an established heroine, Shabana never boasted or let her success overshadow others. Getting to work with her during that time was a monumental achievement for me because although I had already established myself on television, I was still new to the world of cinema," he said.
"Shabana's dedication and passion for her craft are unparalleled. She epitomises success and can be considered an industry in herself," Ujjal concluded.
