Sooraj Pancholi acquitted from Jiah Khan suicide case
Nearly a decade after the suicide of Indian actor Jiah Khan, her boyfriend Sooraj Pancholi—who is also an actor—was acquitted from the suicide case today by the Bombay High Court.
A special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court in Mumbai announced the verdict today, clearing Sooraj from the case. They mentioned that the actor was acquitted due to a lack of evidence.
On June 3, 2013, Indian actor Jiah Khan was found hanging in her residence. The police found a suicide note, consisting of six pages, in her house. In the note, Jiah had alleged that Sooraj Pancholi—the son of celebrity couple Aditya Pancholi and Zarina Wahab—and her were in a relationship and that Sooraj would abuse her both mentally and physically.
Based on the letter, Sooraj was arrested on June 10, 2013 by the police, for the abetment of suicide charges and kept into the custody until the Bombay High Court granted him bail on July 3, 2013.
After the recent verdict, Sooraj shared an Instagram story which read, "The TRUTH always wins!"
Meanwhile, Rabia Khan, Jiah's mother, was unhappy with the verdict. She indicated that she would continue to fight for her daughter. She also claimed that her daughter was killed.
