Stars who financially compensated for their box office flops
Salman Khan starrer "Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan" was released this Eid-ul-Fitr. Yet, as per media reports, the film has not performed well at the box office. Previously, during the film's trailer launch, the Bollywood star had attested that he would cover the film's production costs if it flopped.
The "Dabangg" star had said, "If this film does not perform well, I will pay the full budget required to make it."
This is not the first time Bollywood stars have personally compensated for their films that flopped at the box office. Let's have a look at some of the actors who paid for films which flopped.
Salman Khan
While Salman Khan might have to pay the cost of "Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan" if the film continues to fail at the box office, this is actually not the first time Salman has reached into his own pocket to compensate for a film that flopped. The actor had previously paid the producers of "Tubelight" Rs 55 crore in 2017 after the film flopped.
Shah Rukh Khan
Even "Pathaan" star Shah Rukh Khan recently shared how he had compensated producers for certain productions which had failed. The illustrious Bollywood actor's "Zero" (2018) and "Dilwale" (2015) both failed to meet their box office expectations. After this, Shah Rukh bore 50 percent of the producers' loss from the two films' distribution.
Aamir Khan
"PK" star Aamir Khan also made this list. When "Laal Singh Chadddha" failed to generate revenue at the box office—particularly after controversy arose regarding a statement from Aamir in a 2015 interview—the star paid around Rs 100 crore as compensation for the film.
Vijay Deverakonda
Amongst the new generation of Bollywood stars, the "Arjun Reddy" famed actor, Vijay Deverakonda, also booked a spot for himself on this list. When the Rs 100 crore budget film, "Liger" (2022), only earned a measly Rs 60 crore in box office, the actor returned his own fees to the producers as compensation.
