Taking on a new role feels like taking on a new form of rebirth: Monira Mithu
Monira Mithu is a popular face amongst Bangladesh's showbiz industry. She has effortlessly delivered performances in a variety of roles that gained her immense love from the audience.
The "Amar Ache Jol" famed actress recently spoke to The Daily Star about her acting journey and latest work, "Jole Jole Tara", which is awaiting its release.
You persistently appear in one film after another. When are you starting the shooting for 'Story of Dodo'?
Hopefully, we will begin the shooting for "Story of Dodo" next month, under the direction of Reza Ghatok. In the film, I will portray the role of Neela Chowdhury, whereas Pori Moni will play Neela's daughter. Besides, a few of my films are in the pipeline, awaiting release.
Can you share a bit more about your upcoming projects?
I completed shooting for "Jole Jole Tara", which is a government-funded film and is slated to be released soon. Under the direction of Arun Chowdhury, I played a rather difficult role in it. While I was dubbing, the character seemed even more difficult to pull off. I have worked in 30 films so far, of which, this one felt like the most strenuous one.
In this film, I take on roles of two different age groups of the same character-- a mother of two children, and the elderly version of the woman.
Could you share your memorable experiences from 'Jole Jole Tara' shooting days?
There are many! During a scene in the film--where I needed to intentionally fall down or collapse-- I had to retake it multiple times. As a result, I had an accident. My body is yet to recover completely. However, I received immense encouragement and praise from the entire crew while filming that shot.
The film also features a scene in the river, where I get into the water to look for my daughter. We started shooting in the daytime, but it took so long to properly take the shot that the sun had already set. I was so immersed in my character that I don't recall how I got back from the waist-deep water. However, my body was aching the whole time during the shoot because of the aforementioned accident.
Could you tell us more about your film 'Chador'?
"Chador" is also a government-funded film. It has been produced by the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC). It is directed by Zakir Hossain Raju. I played a challenging role in this film as well. Besides, I have recently worked on another film, titled "Thokor".
Do you find it challenging to consistently undertake new characters?
I take every day as a challenge. For me, taking on a new role feels like taking on a new form of rebirth or comeback. Most importantly, the process feels as joyful as giving birth to a newborn. I feel as though I have discovered a new world.
Do you ever feel discontent at any point?
I have no reason to feel discontentment. I am pleased with everything that I have been given by the Almighty.
