Tauquir Ahmed makes theatrical comeback with ‘Tirthojatri’
After a substantial hiatus, the highly esteemed artiste Tauquir Ahmed is set to make his eagerly anticipated comeback to the stage in Dhaka. The multifaceted talent will be taking on the director's chair for the play "Tirthojatri", scheduled to enthrall audiences at the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) from August 2 to August 4.
This upcoming production marks the 16th installment from his theatre troupe Natyakendra.
The play, previously showcased in New York, boasts the directorial prowess of Tauquir Ahmed himself. His last directorial venture on the theatrical stage was "Pratisaran" in Dhaka, a production from several years ago. With palpable excitement, the National Film Award-winning artiste expressed his delight in returning to the stage. "It feels great to return after a long time, I am hopeful for the play 'Tirthojatri'," he said.
Tauquir Ahmed fondly recalled the days when the Mahila Samity, located in Bailey Road, was the thriving hub of theatre until the 1990s. While the legacy now extends to the grandeur of BSA, the director shared his concerns about the scarcity of theatres in the city, adding, "I am concerned that we need more theatres in the city."
Tauquir has dazzled audiences with his directorial masterpieces throughout his career, including "Ichchhamrittyu", "Hoybodon", and aforementioned "Pratisaran".
