Lightning kills farmer, teen in Lalmonirhat, Chapainawabganj

Two people were dead in separate incidents of lightning strikes during rain in Lalmonirhat and Chapainawabganj districts today (July 30, 2022).

In Lalmonirhat, a farmer named Moza Mia (52) died on the spot after a thunderbolt struck him at Char Shoulmari village in Kaliganj upazila this afternoon.

The incident happened when Moza took his two buffaloes to a field for grazing near his house during rain, said Golam Rosul, officer-in-charge of Kaliganj Police Station.

The animals also died in the lightning strike, the OC told our Lalmonirhat correspondent.

In Chapainawabganj, a teenager was dead in a lightning strike at Rajarampur in the afternoon.

The deceased was identified as Mohammad Saad (14), son of Sirajul Islam of Rajarampur, our local correspondent reports quoting Mozaffar Hossain, officer-in-charge (OC) of Sadar Model Police Station.

The OC said Saad suffered injuries after a lightning struck him while he was playing football with others in a field adjacent to Hasina Girls High School in Rajarampur area around 5:30pm.

He was rescued by locals and taken to the 250-bed district hospital where doctors declared him dead, added the police official.
